John Deere Undercuts American Farmers
For decades, the Department of Justice prosecuted IBM over anti-trust violations that enabled the company to dominate markets and erect high barriers of entry to competitors. Among its tactics were bundling IBM software into its computers – a strategy Microsoft emulated to acquire global dominance in the personal computing space. Skip ahead to 2024, and John Deere is bundling software into equipment sold to farmers that can only be accessed by licensed Deere dealers. This can only end badly – for farmers.
