In 1996, Wells Fargo acquired First Interstate Bank (FIB), a bank holding company over which Bill Gates’ mother, Mary Maxwell Gates, presided as Director.
FIB has a rich history that traces back to Amadeo Pietro Giannini, the son of Italian immigrants, In 1904, Giannini established the Bank of Italy in San Francisco to serve Italian-Americans. The Bank of Italy eventually became the Bank of America, the world’s largest bank and partner of the World Economic Forum.
